How We Got Started
In the late 70s, John Fetherolf engaged in the construction and renovation of personalized homes. Faced with difficulties in sourcing high-quality hardwood doors for his clients, he took it upon himself to develop his own distinctive stile and rail doors.
Initially, he crafted doors based on the specific requirements of his ongoing construction projects. However, word spread, and other contractors and homeowners soon approached him for their door-building needs. This led to the establishment of a dedicated workshop.
In 1992, John, along with his son and longtime apprentice, David, officially founded Bent Nail Architectural Millwork in Lodi, Ohio. Over the next two decades, Bent Nail’s prestigious work grew in popularity and recognition.
In 2015, Bent Nail received a Historic Preservation Award from the Cleveland Restoration Society and AIA Cleveland for help with the Progress Through Preservation of Greater Akron’s Preservation House.
Today, Bent Nail is contacted by city governments and historical societies across the tri-state region to help re-create, refurbish, and restore damaged wooden features of old buildings and structures.
